Television personality and host, Nick Cannon recently lost his five-month-old baby, Zen, to a brain tumor. He announced the passing on his talk show last week.

“Over the weekend I lost my youngest son to a condition called hydrocephalus that was pretty much a malignant, invasive midline brain tumor, brain cancer,” an emotional Cannon said. “It’s tough.”

Hydrocephalus is the buildup of fluid in the cavities (ventricles) deep within the brain. Hydrocephalus can happen at any age, but it occurs more frequently among infants and adults 60 and over.

Cannon revealed that Zen’s conditions started to get worse around Thanksgiving, and he was sent to the hospital. Cannon and his family were hoping for the best, but things got worse.

“This weekend I made a valid effort to spend the most quality time I could spend with Zen,” Cannon said. “Holding my son for the last time, it was a beautiful setting.”

The actor explained how he nearly missed the moment because he was leaving for his weekly trip to New York.

“Usually on Sundays I kinda handle everything I need to handle with the family and then I fly back to New York so I can be here (for the show),” Cannon said. “By the time I got in the car and was headed to the airport, I had to turn around.”

He also mentioned that he spent this past weekend with his son in California and said “not only did we get to see the sunrise, we got to see the sunset.”
