Will Smith transforms into Richard Williams, the father of tennis stars, Serena and Venus Williams in the new film King Richard. The movie also features Aunjanue Ellis, as the tennis stars’ mother, and Saniyya Sidney and Demi Singleton as young Venus and Serena.

At the heart of this film, we find a father who recognizes the God-given gifts in his daughters and leads them with love as they work to make their dreams a reality. It is an inspiring film that will resonate with audiences!

Based on a true story, King Richard follows the journey of an undeterred father instrumental in raising two of the most extraordinarily gifted athletes of all time: Venus and Serena Williams. Armed with a clear vision and a brazen 78-page plan, Richard is determined to write his daughters into history.

Training on Compton, California’s neglected tennis courts – rain or shine – the girls are shaped by their father’s unyielding commitment and their mother’s balanced perspective and keen intuition, defying the seemingly insurmountable odds and prevailing expectations laid before them.

“This is a movie about family,” Smith said. “This is a movie about belief. This is a movie about love and triumph.”

Serena and Venus Williams are Executive Producers of the film, and they shared what it was like having Smith play their father.

“When we heard that Will wanted to do it, it was like, ‘Oh, my God, this movie is going to be the real deal, so we got this sense this is going to be big,” Venus recalled.

“There are so many ways to tell the story,” Serena said. “But I think telling it through my dad was one of the best ways, because he had the idea.”

King Richard hits theaters and will stream on HBOMax starting this Friday, November 19.
