Grammy award-winning singer, songwriter, and entrepreneur Kierra Sheard-Kelly has doubled #1 on the Gospel radio charts with her song, “Something Has to Break.”
Originally released as a duet with Tasha Cobbs-Leonard, the second release features her mother, Karen Clark Sheard. This new achievement is unique because it is the first mother-daughter duo to land a #1 spot on Billboard’s Gospel Airplay chart.
“Something Has to Break,” is a song apropos for the moment as the world deals with the global pandemic. With lyrics like, “I believe You’ll get me to it/I believe You’ll lead me through it/I Believe that You will do it right now/Something has to break,” listeners are encouraged to continue to believe for better.
In addition to her musical success, Sheard-Kelly has written a book, Big, Bold, and Beautiful: Owning the Woman God Made You to Be. According to the book’s synopsis, “Sheard shares advice on coping with life! Teen girls learn to identify their goals and gifts, deal with societal expectations, love themselves, and live their faith proudly and boldly.”
Sheard-Kelly, a devoted writer since the age of eighteen, revealed that the book was rooted out of experiences written in her journal. “Well actually, it was unintentional. So I had been writing it, just kind of journaling as a form of therapy, and this is how it came about,” she shared.
She’s also the creator and founder of a fashion line called Eleven60, and will be featured in an original Lifetime thriller, Line Sisters. It’s about four sorority sisters- Valerie (LeToya Luckett), Cassandra (Kierra Sheard-Kelly), Simona (Ta’Rhonda Jones;) and Dominique (Drew Sidora) – as they reunite at a Black Greek Weekend celebration held on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Having pledged the Alpha Beta Omega Sorority, Inc., they share more than the bonds of sisterhood after the mysterious death of the dean of pledges 15 years prior.
Sheard-Kelly expressed her gratitude for the success of “Something Had to Break” on Instagram.
