On Friday, Grammy Award-Winning Artist and Songwriter Tamela Mann released her new album, Overcomer, through The Orchard Distribution.
The album, executive produced by Mann and her husband singer and actor David Mann, features twelve tracks of the singer’s passionate and strong vocals. Guest artists featured in the new project include gospel legend Kirk Franklin, worship leader Todd Dulaney, Travis Green, and The Fellas.
Mann explains how Overcomer was conceived to bring healing and hope to a world resetting after a tumultuous chapter in its history.
“I poured my experiences into the lyrics, putting my heart and soul into the words on this album,” said the NAACP Image® Award-Winning Actress and Producer in a statement obtained by ARB TV. “It’s me looking at my life and the things I was dealing with, trying to learn from those things, and doing what I can to overcome them.”
The songstress also sees her new album as a reflection of the change she has undergone in her life recently.
“I love butterflies. I feel like I’m coming out of the cocoon again, energized and on fire,” she said. In the summer of 2019, she underwent surgery to have both her knees replaced. During her time of recovery, she had time to work on her gift of music. “This is new music for a new time and a new me,” she explained.
In addition to her music, Mann continues to work on her acting career. She reprised her role as Cora in Tyler Perry’s Assisted Living on BET+, the role that originated from Perry’s Madea plays and movies.
She is also featured in two new film projects: Tyler Perry’s Madea movie coming to Netflix and Soul Santa airing this Christmas on BET, which she executive produced with her husband.
