Earlier today the Church of God in Christ announced the passing of Evangelist Joyce L. Rodgers.

“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the transition of Supervisor Joyce L. Rodgers. A Woman of God par excellence, a dearly beloved chairlady, a trusted confidante, a faithful friend. Words don’t suffice. We honor your life and your legacy. #COGIC,” the church wrote in an Instagram post.

Rodgers, who had been sick, was officially installed as Jurisdictional Supervisor of Texas Northeast First Jurisdiction only two days earlier on March 17, 2021.

As news of her passing spread, faith leaders expressed their sadness and shock. Gospel artist Judith Christie McAllister, who hosted a prayer call on behalf of her dear friend, posted a video of her singing to Rodgers, writing in the caption, “#Nowords 💔💔💔💔💔💔💔#Whenmyheartisoverwhelmed #RestSis #iloveyouforever❤️ #JCM

Presiding Bishop, J. Drew Sheard shared a picture of him and Rodgers and expressed how much he will miss her.  “My dear sister. We enjoyed some awesome times. You will be profoundly missed! Rom. 8:18.”

“Praying for the Family of this incredible Giant Slayer she will be missed and forever cherished,” Karen Clark Sheard said. “Giant Slayer” was a common title given to the beloved evangelist.

Prior to her passing, COGIC leadership solicited prayers on her behalf in an official letter released May 16, 2021.  In response to this request, spiritual leaders around the world showed their support as she battled her illness.

Bishop T.D. Jakes of The Potter’s House posted a prayer on Instagram for her.

“As this giant in God’s kingdom fights for her life, I ask you to take a moment and pray with me,” he wrote before going into his prayer. ”Will you join me?⁣ Spirit of the Living God, as we lift our sister @MsJoyceLRodgers in fervent prayers, we ask that You touch her with healing power and restore her to complete health as only You can do. A crusader for Christ, we’ve witnessed her slay giants in Your name. And now, we stand firm in our faith that she will come out victorious once again in the name of Jesus. Amen.”

Pastor of The Potter’s House North Dallas Sheryl Brady said,  “Praying for this beautiful woman of God. She’s been such a blessing to so many of us🙏🏼♥️.”  Toure Roberts of The Potters House One LA added, “Lord, mightily tough your great servant. Push back her infirmity, strengthen her and raise her up! In Jesus’ matchless name! 🙏🏾”

At this time, no formal announcement has been made regarding her homegoing service or any memorial services.
