The New York rapper, DMX died today at the age of 50. The Grammy-nominated artist, whose real name is Earl Simmons, was on life support at White Plains Hospital on April 2, 2021, after suffering from a heart attack allegedly caused by a drug overdose. His family organized a prayer vigil for him outside of the Hospital on Monday while he remained in a coma.
“Earl was a warrior who fought to the very end,” a statement from his family read. “He loved his family with all of his heart and we cherish the times we spent with him. Earl’s music inspired countless fans across the world and his iconic legacy will live on forever. We appreciate all of the love and support during this incredibly difficult time.”
As news of the rapper’s tragic death spread, many people from fans to close friends have responded with condolences and fond memories of the artist.
Reverend Marissa Farrow shared a memory of the rapper, along with a picture she took with him, on her Instagram page.
“Traveling to and from NY has given me a chance to meet a few people. He was by far one of my dreams. Couldn’t believe he was so open to talking to his “fans”. I grew up listening to Ruff Ryders because of my big brother. I thought I was Eve and He was #DMX. To an icon. REST. 🕊💔”
In another Instagram post, Pastor Mike Jr.said, “We Love You!”
Pastor and author of Women Evolve, Sarah Jakes Roberts also shared a post of DMX rapping about God.
“So, I’m going to give it to Jesus, cuz’ it ain’t my fight/ I wanna make it to the light/I wanna make it alright/ and it ain’t nobody but you taking my life,” he can be heard saying in the clip.
The rapper, Eve, who was a part of the DMX-led group Ruff Ryder Entertainment also paid tribute to her former crewmate. “#mydog X I know that you are in the place of peace you deserve,” she wrote. “I will be forever grateful to have known you. You were one of the most special people I have ever met. Full of Humour, talent, wisdom, honesty and love and most of all loyalty. She continued with, “This world has lost a REAL ONE but the heavens have gained an ANGEL. May you Rest 🙏🏾🕊💔😔 #rip #dmx #ruffrydersfamily”
